Dear family on earth,
Apologies for the absence from my muse. I have been deep in growing my inspiration and vision for community and sustainability. The idea that we can localize and conserve our precious earth, local economy, and deepen our relationship with each other, finding family and friends near us, is very inspiring to me. I am in the heart of Oakland, California, an area where many consider to be dangerous and many other things I’d prefer not to repeat here.
I’m here to let you know that I just walked around the neighborhood for a 2 mile stretch (1 mile on each side of the street), and met as many neighbors as I possibly could. The people that you might think would be dangerous end up being the nicest, offering power for the stage from their home, or show their personal excitement for #loveourhood coming June 4th. This is a big celebration for me. It is a cry to keep believing in human existence and the goodness that we all have within us. No matter what color, gender, sexual orientation, or belief, we all have goodness. We were born with it. I hope you can come out and celebrate June 4th with us!
To honor this day that I have been spending the past 3 months of my life to, I am releasing a single “Dark Winter Night” at Love Our Neighborhood Day. I’ll be performing at 12:40 p.m. sharp with Del Corazon dance troupe coming to do their rendition of the song. I’d like to honor nature and the earth we live on. The festival of the commons that happens in this same neighborhood has brought me to tears during their ceremonies, and if there is any way we can gather a vibe of ceremony on June 4th, I ask you to show up with your colors flying, your tears, laughter, and smiling faces. Thank you again for your continued support on this path. I am praying we find balance in this world asap. I think the fastest way is to find it within ourselves. I’m working on that!

LOVE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD DAY 2016
STREETS CLOSE TO CREATE CAR-FREE COMMUNITY ATMOSPHERE. FUN ACTIVITIES, PERFORMANCES, RESOURCES AND ART PROVIDED FOR FREE! COME PLAY AND SUPPORT LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS!
On Saturday June 4th, 2016, Walk Oakland Bike Oakland and locals from the Golden Gate, Southwest Berkeley and Emeryville neighborhoods will be producing our third annual Love Our Neighborhood Day. The event will be open from 11am-4pm.
Love Our Neighborhood Day will happen in the street on San Pablo Avenue, from Stanford to Ashby. All lanes of traffic on San Pablo will be closed to cars during the event. This is a huge achievement for our neighborhood – we’re closing historic state highway 123 for the day to enable shared celebration and reclaiming of urban open spaces.
In 2015, we saw about 10,000 visitors to Love Our Neighborhood Day. We expect 15,000 to attend this year because of the increased enthusiasm and interest shown by the community, as well as the addition of several new key event partners, performers, and city support.
Dozens of local organizations, performers, artists, and others from throughout the region will join us on event day, including:
– 11 a.m. Zumba w/ Angie
– 11:40 Ecstatic Dance w/ DJ
